THE MENTAL STATE OF THE EDUCATOR AMID COVID-19.

Dear School owners, administrators, professionals and leaders in the education sector and educational service delivery space: I want to assure you that you are not alone.

Yes I understand the fact that the education industry ranks in the top 7 badly hit sectors by the Covid-19 pandemic but the impact is global! so don't be too hard on yourselves. The feeling is mutually global..lol.

2. IT IS OKAY to feel or go through feelings of frustration, apprehension, fear, worry and almost like a failure but what is NOT OKAY is for you not to channel these negative,"not so good" thoughts into positive and meaningful use.

As school administrators, owners and professionals in the education sector you need to guard and guide your feelings to maintain your mental well-being and keep your sanity intact.

You have a herculean responsibility towards your pupils, students, teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and your families.

You will need to answer/address various concerns, questions such as the goals, plans direction of the school during and after the pandemic. The importance of the mental well-being of the prime movers behind our educational outfits, schools and centers cannot be overemphasized.
As educators, you need to develop a growth mindset. The growth mindset is progressive, believes in creating opportunities, believes in learning a new skill and has GRIT.

REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS towards channeling or guiding your feelings from "not so good" or negative to creative and progressive.

a. What do I think or what are my beliefs about this pandemic period?
b. How do my beliefs or thoughts affect or relate to my concerns about my school?
c. What is my greatest fear about this pandemic?
d. How will I want to feel right now about my school business i.e. what is my ideal, desired feeling?
e. What do I need to do to get to these desired feelings?

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO NAVIGATE MY WAY OUT OF THE "NOT SO GOOD" FEELINGS AND THOUGHTS AS A SCHOOL OWNER OR ADMINISTRATOR?

You need to develop, hone or sharpen or learn two major skills!

A. RESILIENCE - has been defined by the advanced oxford dictionary as the ability of people or things to feel better quickly after an unpleasant situation, state or condition.
An offshoot of resilience is the adversity quotient.

According to psychologist, there are 3 types of quotients i.e The IQ(intelligence quotient), the EQ (emotional quotient) and the SQ (social quotient). There is a fourth one and that is the AQ  - adversity quotient which has been defined as the ability to go through a rough patch and come out without losing your mind.
The second offshoot of Resilience is undauntedness - which has been defined as the ability to go through a difficulty and stay focused, not intimidated or discouraged.
Quicks tips in helping children develop AQ... because it is very important that as educators we help them to learn and inculcate the adversity quotient.
a. Do not reward children for doing household chores or acts of responsibility. You can commend them and appreciate that act or efforts verbally. They need to build and develop values.
b. Do not use household chores as a punishment for a wrong behavior or act. They need to appreciate and value work.

2. "PASSION MOISTURIZING"
Just as women moisturize their skins so that it does not dry up but stay fresh, rejuvenated, glowing and alive! you need to moisturize your passion, purpose and vision so that it does not dry up and out of zeal, enthusiasm and drive.
HOW DO I MOISTURIZE MY PASSION:
a. Remain in, soak in and surround yourself with positivity in all ramifications! This keeps your passion and purpose moisten and fresh.
b. There is a lot of educational services, resources and programs available in the digital sp
